    • Can anyone in here, help me out with this:

Damping in Simple Harmonic Motion, depends upon the:

      a) Amplitude

      b) Natural frequency

      c) Frictional force

      d) None of these.

    Its amplitude i think

I think option c is correct because damping is because of air fraction  so it means it depends upon air resistance or fractional force, correct me if iam wrong!

Sukhbakhat the mcq book also says amplitude. Can u explain the reason behind it?

Preety devi. I also thought that friction would be the correct choice as its the cause of damping but IDK why the mcq book says that amplitude is the right option. If you know anything about it, let me know, I will appreciate it.

It is b/c if there is decrese in amplitude the damping occurs. If there is no any change in amplitude how will the damping occurs. Other than that as u said friction forces, these are the reasons of decreasing amplitude or how to undergo damping process but not the answer of ur question. As the question is saying on which factor the damping depends upon. I hope u will be able to understand what i am trying to say.

Thanks alot SukhBakhat for your help and time. ??????????

I think because of damping reduction in amplitude occurs so damping doesnot depend upon amplitude.      May be there is some mistake in key

Damping is reduction in amplitude and this reduction is due to air resistance means friction so correct answer is friction

I too agree with both of u that damping or reduction of amplitude is the effect of resistive forces. Just wanted to confirm and clear my doubts. So , Thanks alot both of you.
