Newton's 2nd law of motion

When we plot a graph of Newton's 2nd law of motion , we take acceleration at y-axis and force at x-axis , because y-axis is depend upon x-axis . For e.g:  when a acting upon any object , it produces acceleration or in other words we can say that acceleration depends upon force . So this is the reason , why we take acceleration at y- axis . Am I right sir .....
